As a logical consequence of the company’s environmental policy and of the initial successes of the energy efficiency measures it has taken, the Freising factory of HAWE Hydraulik SE, Munich, has been certified in accordance with energy management standard DIN EN 16001. This standard came into force in July 2009 and includes EU-wide standard criteria for an energy management system at companies.
Prior to issuing of the certificate, the consumption figures for electricity, natural gas and diesel fuel were monitored and the data recorded. Intechnica Cert GmbH, Nürnberg, recently completed a successful audit confirming that HAWE Hydraulik is systematically and continuously reducing energy consumption at its Freising factory and using energy more efficiently. For example, it has made use of the potential for saving diesel fuel in changing over the delivery system to “free house.” About 50% fewer trucks are now deployed for delivering goods. Issuance of the certificate is also conditional upon full compliance with the general legal framework.
HAWE Hydraulik manufactures high pressure pumps, compact power packs and valve controls on a production area of about 13,000 m2 at its Freising location. These products are used primarily in machine tools, wind turbines and solar energy systems as well as in the construction industry. Reducing the energy requirement in manufacturing is not only beneficial to the environment and the climate but also frees up financial resources that can be used for new investments in further energy efficiency measures.
